The craft
Wax, dye and patience
Every piece starts as plain cotton or silk. Our artisans draw each pattern in hot wax with a tjanting pen, then dye the cloth by hand — layer after layer, one colour at a time.
Boiling the wax away reveals the design, along with the fine crackle lines that make every batik one of a kind. It is a craft Sri Lankan families have carried for generations, and one we are proud to keep alive.
